A Tax Token is a Solana token built using the Token-2022 standard (also called Token Extensions) that automatically charges a transfer fee on every transaction, similar to buy/sell taxes on EVM chains. The fee percentage is set during token creation and is collected automatically on-chain. This is useful for projects that want to generate revenue from trading activity, fund a treasury, or implement deflationary mechanics.
A regular SPL Token has no built-in transfer fees. Every transaction transfers the exact amount specified. A Tax Token (Token-2022) automatically deducts a percentage on every transfer, which accumulates in a fee account you control. Tax Tokens use Solana's Token-2022 program, which is newer and supports advanced features. If you don't need transfer fees, create a regular token using our Token Creator instead.
You set the transfer fee percentage during token creation. Once set, every transaction automatically deducts that fee. For example, a 5% fee on a 1,000 token transfer means 50 tokens go to your fee account and 950 reach the recipient. The fee applies to all transfers: wallet-to-wallet, DEX trades and any on-chain movement of your token.
Transfer fees accumulate in each token account. You can harvest (withdraw) them at any time using the Token-2022 program. The fees are collected to your designated fee authority wallet.
Token-2022 tokens are supported by major DEXes including Jupiter and Raydium, but not all platforms support them yet. Before launching, verify that your target DEX supports Token-2022 transfers with fees. Regular SPL tokens have universal compatibility, so choose Token-2022 only if you specifically need the transfer fee feature.
