Two layers, one token

Hyperliquid is best known for its perps, and those run on an L1 built around a central-limit orderbook that does not execute Solidity at all. HyperEVM is the general execution layer next to it: standard EVM bytecode, chainId 999, the same HYPE token for gas. Everything on this page deploys there, which is why the contract you get is an ordinary ERC-20 that wallets, explorers and DEX routers read with no adapter and no special support.

The architecture shows up in one place worth knowing about. HyperEVM produces two block streams: small blocks of 3 million gas every couple of seconds, and big blocks of 30 million about once a minute. A token deploy, an airdrop batch and a pool creation all fit in the fast stream. Only contracts large enough to exceed the small-block ceiling have to wait for the slow one, which is an infrastructure problem rather than something a launch runs into.
