A token creator deploys the contract for you: fill in the name, symbol, supply and decimals, upload a logo, and the tool builds and signs the deployment from your own wallet. Smithii supports eight networks from one form. What "give up control" means depends on the network — Solana gives you three separate authorities to drop, an EVM token is controlled by a single contract owner who can renounce that role, and a Sui coin decides mintability once, at creation.

On Solana, yes — for as long as you keep update authority; revoking it fixes the name, symbol and logo permanently. The other nine networks have no update step to begin with: an EVM token's name and symbol are fixed in the contract at deployment regardless of any authority, and a Sui coin's metadata is frozen immutable the moment it is created.
Only if minting is still possible on that network. On Solana, for as long as you hold mint authority. On Sui, only if you chose to keep the TreasuryCap when you created the coin — that is a one-time choice made at deployment, not something you switch on afterwards. On EVM chains, minting has to be enabled as an add-on at deployment, and the contract owner can then give it up permanently by renouncing ownership. Whichever way it happens, the resulting cap is verifiable on-chain.
On the eight EVM chains, yes — every token deploys through the same audited proxy contract, so the explorer resolves and displays its source automatically, with no separate submission needed. Solana has no equivalent step: every token uses the standard SPL Token program, which explorers already recognise, so there is no per-token contract to verify.
Which network should you launch on?
Cost is the visible difference and the smallest one. Deployment runs from a fraction of a cent of network gas on Solana and the L2s to real money on Ethereum L1, and the comparison table above lists what Smithii charges per network. For most launches that difference is not what decides it.
What decides it is where your buyers and your liquidity already are. A token on a network with no DEX liquidity and no holders is a contract nobody can trade. Launch where the pool will be, and where the people you expect to hold it already keep funds.
What you can revoke, and how that differs by network
On Solana, a token has three separate authorities. Mint authority lets whoever holds it create more supply. Freeze authority lets them block a specific holder from moving their tokens. Update authority lets them change the name, symbol and logo after launch. Revoking each is its own on-chain action, and Smithii's creator lets you drop any of them at deployment.
EVM chains have no equivalent three-way split. Minting, pausing trading and blacklisting an address are optional, owner-only features you switch on when you deploy — none of them exist unless you pay for the add-on — and the contract owner can give up that control in one step by renouncing ownership. Name and symbol are fixed the moment the contract deploys; there is no authority that could change them either way, so there is nothing to reassure a holder about on that front.
Sui has neither a freeze nor an update authority. The only choice is whether the coin's TreasuryCap — the capability that lets you mint more — survives deployment. Keep it and you can mint later; skip keeping it and the supply is fixed permanently from that point on. A Sui coin's metadata is frozen immutable the moment it is created, regardless of what you choose for the TreasuryCap.
Supply and decimals, and why they are hard to change later
Decimals set how divisible the token is, and none of these networks let you change it after deployment. Eighteen is the fixed EVM convention. Solana commonly uses nine, though six is also widely used — Smithii defaults new Solana and Sui tokens to six decimals and lets you set any value from there. Picking something unusual mostly creates confusion in wallets and price displays, not a technical problem.
Supply can grow for as long as minting stays possible: while you hold mint authority on Solana, while the contract owner has not renounced ownership on EVM, or while the TreasuryCap survives on Sui. It stops the moment that control is given up. Decide the number you want before you close that door, not after.
