Benefits of Wrapper

One transaction

send ETH, receive WETH, or the other way round

Always one for one

the wrapper holds your ETH and issues the same amount

Any amount

wrap what a single trade needs, unwrap part of it later

What contracts expect

Thruster pools and DeFi protocols hold WETH, not ETH

Nothing custodial

the wrapper contract holds it and you redeem whenever you want

No coding

no router call to compose and no contract to interact with by hand

A small fee shown before you sign, plus L2 gas. The conversion itself is always one for one: the wrapper holds your ETH and issues the same amount back.

It deposits your ETH into the wrapper contract, which issues you the same amount of WETH, an ERC-20. Unwrapping returns the ETH and burns the WETH. The rate is one for one in both directions and there is no lock-up.

Because ETH is the network currency and not a token: it has no transfer or approve function for a contract to call. Anything written against the ERC-20 standard needs WETH instead, which is most of DeFi.

Yes, any amount at any time. The rest stays wrapped and usable.

The wrapper is one of the most used contracts on any EVM chain and does one thing: hold ETH and issue WETH against it. Your claim is the WETH in your wallet, redeemable whenever you want.

A small fee shown before you sign, plus Blast gas. The conversion never takes a cut: what goes in comes out.

Wrapping on a yield-bearing chain

Blast pays yield on ETH by default, and whether wrapped ETH keeps accruing depends on the specific contract you hold it in rather than on the act of wrapping. Worth checking where the WETH is going to sit before you assume the yield follows it.
